What it does
Should I trade with the move or fade it? Every intraday decision starts here. Xtrade Regime Compass answers it with one number and one word: TRENDING, BALANCED, or TRANSITION — computed from how efficiently price is moving right now, compared to the rest of today.
Kaufman's Efficiency Ratio measures directional efficiency on 5/15/60-minute windows while the Lo-MacKinlay variance ratio confirms — and the composite is graded against its own distribution from today, not an absolute threshold fitted years ago. Anti-flicker smoothing, minimum dwell time, and a fast lane for genuine breakouts mean the state only changes when it means it.
Backed by: Kaufman Efficiency Ratio; Lo & MacKinlay (1988), RFS 1(1):41
- ✓One unmissable state: TRENDING ▲ / TRENDING ▼ / BALANCED / TRANSITION, with a 0-100 trendiness score
- ✓Background tint bands — the regime is visible without looking at anything
- ✓Self-calibrating: "is it more trendy than usual right now", not a fitted threshold
- ✓Zero parameters — nothing to optimize, nothing to overfit
- ✓Optional sound alert on regime change
